World Cafe is a process for hosting meaningful conversations that move communities toward solutions to tough problems. More about world cafe method. Click here.
Up to forty-eight participants will be seated at round tables each with a facilitator who will pose a question for conversation. The topics for discussion at the SOS -Youth world cafes will all relate to high suicide risk and low sense of belonging among Asian Wisconsin youth.
Participants will be able to doodle, draw, and make notes on the paper table cloths. Facilitators observe for themes that arise as result of the participants' conversations.
After 20 - 30 minutes each participant will move to another round table for a new topic of discussion.
After everyone has rotated to each table, the themes are gathered and reported by the facilitators to the group for final reflections.
Lunch is provided during the world cafe.
Gathering in a circle, such as around a fire is part of human history. Conversing together is a primary means for sharing knowledge and cooperating to solve tough problems that promote community mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health and healing. Conversational leadership takes root when community leaders promote conversation as a core process for effecting change. The curriculum and pedagogy for the SOS-Youth health culture diplomacy continuing education retreat for Advanced Practice Nurses is informed by the conversational leadership of three SOS-Youth World Cafe events.
